Reflection Loop Art Tour

Loop Public Arts
I went to see five places of public art. I chose the artists because they are very famous. My favorite is Cloud Gate which is also called The Bean. It is like a mirror and the tourists can see themselves. So the tourists become part of the art. I took many pictures there. A purpose of the sculpture is to reflect the clouds but on sunny days, people will not be able to see the clouds in Cloud Gate. I went there on a sunny day so I did not get to see clouds. But inside in the center I saw many people looking at the ceiling of Cloud Gate. They could not see clouds but they saw themselves. I learned about the artists and the purpose of their design. The artist of The Bean, Anish Kapoor, is from India but he lives now in England. By chance, I met my friend Steve in the Loop. He is a professor in Roosevelt University. He had lot of knowledge about the arts. He told me a lot about public art in Chicago: which art is more famous and which country the artist is from. I tried to give him some information, but I could not give him much because I don’t understand about it well. I heard an interested story about American Indian people lifestyle from Steve. He told me that the land we were walking on is the land of the Indians because they lived here first. The sculptures of the Indians show them with the motions of using a bow and a pear but they did not have the actual bow and spear in the sculpture. He told me that the Europeans came to Chicago and murdered the Indians to get their land. I also learned that the Indians were originally from Asia. I now know that the horses that the Indians were riding originally came from Mongolia. So I not only learned about art from Steve but I also learned about American history.
