MCA reflection
I first time was traveling to the museum of contemporary art of Chicago. Before I with my classmates visited there on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, I never knew this museum, even though I have been Chicago for 10 years. When we arrived front step of the gate of museum, I was surprised about the building of the museum. Because of the gate and windows of the building were bright, such as transparent glasses. When people got there, they felt clearly as like my feelings. The professor Gitte took several pictures for us. It will be reminds us never forget our appreciated art class in the future. For the building, one of the nation’s largest facilities devoted to contemporary art; the museum offers exhibitions of painting, sculpture, video, and performance create since 1949 by important artists. So, it gave me the most impression. I saw that an arch shape wood, it was very simple. I did have a camera, so, I sorry could not take a picture for it. I learned that Martin Puryear{(American, b.1941) Unititled, 1975-78} works was as Osuge Orange Wood and Maple and brass studs Collection museum of contemporary art Chicago. I asked Gitte, “Is it art?”. Gitte was confirmed, “Yes, it is art”. But I think that was very general, because I remembered that when I was a child, I saw my grandmother used to it to do steam rice, food. It seemed a shelf to put in the water pan, a rice pot to put on the arch wood. When boiling the water, the rice was steamed. If I understood that can use to made art, I would tried to learning make it. But I lacked the knowledge to created art because I was not artist. But art was created by artists from common things. And it stated that people are living with art in every day and ever thing.

Summary Art 21

Summary of Seeing the Videos in the PBS Art 21 series
I saw a lot of videos and heard a lot of artists speak about their work. From all these videos, I learned about new methods to make art. The artists were all contemporary artists. Many of their ideas seemed to me to be very abstract. I was especially impressed with the work of Cai Guo Qiang. He uses gunpowder to create images. It was power. A video imagines a car bomb, I learn the new imagines. The process he uses is filmed and there is lots of smoke and noise. He can make images of animals using the result of exploding gunpowder. It is dangerous to make this art but he has learned how to do this safely from many years of experience. He also uses lots of lights and big ordinary objects like automobiles to make sculpture. This art and ideas about this art are very special. He showed how to make art on the video. This video series is a compilation of contemporary artists. The artists in this video series are all trying to do something new. They are trying to give new expression for what can be considered art. They try to create their art using skills they acquired from their studies and from their life experiences.

Reflection about Art II

Reflection about Art II
I with classmates of my art class went to Art institute of Chicago museum on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. It is raining, but we with our professor walked on the road together were happy. When I did my assignment to appreciate an art object, Mummy Case of Paankhenamun, I earned a story that was a part of body of god. The god was dead in 3000 years ago, but the people wanted see his body, because of Ancient Egyptian beliefs in the afterlife gave rise to the complex art and science of mummification. This vividly painted Mummy Case was the innermost of a series of shells that housed the body of a deceased person. The hieroglyphic inscriptions and painted scenes identify this mummy as Paankhenamun, a doorkeeper in the temple of the god Amun. The central scene shows the hawk-headed god Horus (god of sun) presenting Paankhenamun to Osiris, ruler of the afterlife. This case is decorated with symbols and scenes of gods that were thought to protect the deceased and ensure his rebirth in the afterlife. They stand on the lotus, a flower that symbolized regeneration. At the throat is a small scene portraying mant, the godless of truth. The hiero-glyphs indicate that Paankhenamun was considered to be “true of voice”, and that his soul successfully had passed the judgment of the dead. A winged scarab beetle, a symbol of the sun that is reborn each day sits over the location of his hart.
I was surprised that Mummy can keep for more 3000 years, it let me praised that artists intelligent and wisdom. They created artwork and common people cannot understand but they were interesting.

Reflect watching a movie

Reflect watching a movie
First Person Sigular/The Museum on the Mountain
Before watching the movie I first choice the movie, only for my homework, but during I was watching I. M. Pei Mandarin of Modernism, and I was touched because the details of one of the most intriguing works of his life to reported by the architect himself. The movie is not only about another museum, but it is also a symbol of pride and history. This is a wonderful movie about Pei and his works and his life, which is truly inspiring and detailed enough to serve as excellent reference for somebody who wants to learn more about Pei, architecture and style.
Pei is an architectural engineer. He never forgets that structural elements go hand in hand with architecture, and the architect must always be aware of the forces in play upon a structure. Pei likes to push the envelope where the two disciplines intersect.
The movie I.M.Pei-First Person Singular/ The Museum on the Mountain recorded that Pei was a talented son of a well-to-do Chinese banker; Pei received the best education his family could arrange and ultimately ended in the States studying architectural engineering because he lacked confidence in his drawing skill. But finally he became a first person singular on architecture.
The magnificent museum was hidden in the hills near Kyoto, Japan, which contains one of the work’s finest collections of Asian and Near eastern antiquities. Many Pei’s photos and his designed significant buildings were in the gallery of the museum.

The Reflect The Art Institute of Chicago web hunt

The Art Institute of Chicago web hunt was a new experience for me. I learned more about the different fields of arts. I have used this website and searched many different styles from the website such as modern art. I learned how to use and count collections that are on the website, and it helped me to discover a lot of different art styles. I viewed Youtube and other things that could show me links about the website, and they were really useful because I was able to view the art in reality as well as a text based source. I thank the teacher for teaching me how to use this website and helping me gather information in order to learn more about art and to complete this assignment. I am also happy that I can shop from this website. My favorite part of the website is the collections because I was able to read about a lot of the art portraits and add them as a collective item. I understand the art of using glass pieces together and coloring them to make very beautiful art windows. I went to Navy Pier and I viewed a new glass creation similar to the one on the video. The art was very outstanding.

Reflection Loop Art Tour

Loop Public Arts
I went to see five places of public art. I chose the artists because they are very famous. My favorite is Cloud Gate which is also called The Bean. It is like a mirror and the tourists can see themselves. So the tourists become part of the art. I took many pictures there. A purpose of the sculpture is to reflect the clouds but on sunny days, people will not be able to see the clouds in Cloud Gate. I went there on a sunny day so I did not get to see clouds. But inside in the center I saw many people looking at the ceiling of Cloud Gate. They could not see clouds but they saw themselves. I learned about the artists and the purpose of their design. The artist of The Bean, Anish Kapoor, is from India but he lives now in England. By chance, I met my friend Steve in the Loop. He is a professor in Roosevelt University. He had lot of knowledge about the arts. He told me a lot about public art in Chicago: which art is more famous and which country the artist is from. I tried to give him some information, but I could not give him much because I don’t understand about it well. I heard an interested story about American Indian people lifestyle from Steve. He told me that the land we were walking on is the land of the Indians because they lived here first. The sculptures of the Indians show them with the motions of using a bow and a pear but they did not have the actual bow and spear in the sculpture. He told me that the Europeans came to Chicago and murdered the Indians to get their land. I also learned that the Indians were originally from Asia. I now know that the horses that the Indians were riding originally came from Mongolia. So I not only learned about art from Steve but I also learned about American history.

Cloud Geat (The sun bean)

The Picasso sculpture was very big. I was surised to learned the sculpture had no title but was just named for the artist.

Lions

I enjoyed seeing the two lions in front of the Art Institute.

Reflection about travel to Architecture Tour

I have been in Chicago for six years, but I never travelled to the heart of the city on the Chicago River by ship. On Wednesday afternoon, September, 21, 2011, I finally got the opportunity to take The Chicago River Architecture Tour with my art class’s classmates. Our teacher Ms. Gitte leaded the way and we had a memorable sightseeing trip. The ticket costs $26. We waited in line for the ship which left harbor at 1:30pm. I learnt a lot from the guider on the boat who introduced the history and artists about those art works on sides. It lasts about 75 minutes.
The tour start from the river part near Michigan Ave., and ended in west loop. After that, it made U-turn toward to the Michigan Lake, then to Navy Pier, and then made a U-turn back to a loop. I found that many different buildings which are important for economic development of Chicago. I saw an interesting building which had the shape of a corn. I was impressed by the creativity of those artists who designed and constructed those great artworks.

Katsushika Hokusai

He was Born in Japan(Oct.1760, Died in May 10, 1849, Edo, Japan).

He was a Japanese artist. He has skills for painter, draftsman, printmaker, and book illustrator. Apprenticed to a woodcut engraver at 15 years old. He became a student of the leading Ukiyo-e master, Katsukawa Shunsho, in 1778. After he learned prints, paintings from kotskawa Shunsho, his thirty -six views of Mount Fuji which created between (1826-1833), a series of prints had marked a summit in the history of the Japanese landscape. I like his grandeur of concept and skill of execution, there was little approaching it before and nothing to surpass it later. He had numerous followers, though none had his power of versatility. He was a special artist because he was drawn by diverse artistic influences, among which they must include Chinese art and western art.

Art works

The first picture is Katsushika Hokusai's order a hand -painted reproduction of this painting, that is about himself portrait at the age of eighty three. I like that because it looks as a Buddhist Zen meditation master, and it can reflect his painting is magnificently conceived with clear, bright, and profound.

I like his second picture because that is natural world phenomenon. The works named is The Great Wave off Kanagawa. It is his most famous work. This particular woodblock is one of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world.
